We chatted to Brad Beer, author of You Can Run Pain Free!, who has not only seen great book sales, but has also seen his business POGO Physio grow thanks to his continued efforts to get his book and himself out there.
So where exactly is ‘out there’? Well, in today’s world ‘out there’ is just about everywhere. It’s being online in social media and chat rooms, it’s being on podcasts and in traditional media, and it’s being at events that align with your business.
You Can Run Pain Free! was the door opener for Brad, but it’s his consistent and diligent approach that has given him so much success. Brad has given his book away to clients, prospective clients, industry figures, athletes and the media, which has in turn given him speaking engagements, put him on podcasts and attracted more people to his clinic.
The book has helped establish Brad as an authority in the running world, with people from all over the world contacting him for advice, and clients travel long distances to have a consultation (one client drives 5 hours one way to see Brad, and another 10 clients travel very long distances as well).
“The plan was initially to solve a problem and I wrote the book to do that. But it has become more than that and now it is a marketing tool as well,” says Brad.
“It has opened up speaking engagements, community talks, and has put me in a position of authority on running issues. The book has done everything I thought it would do and more.”
Brad sells the book on his website, and it is also available in ebook and print on demand through online retailers around the world. In true entrepreneurial style, when he’s asked where the book is available, Brad says, “If it is someone in Australia, I send them straight to the POGO website. If they are overseas then I tell them to go to their online retailer like Amazon. I try to keep it simple, so it is easy for them to find and order the book quickly.”
Looking to the future, the idea for Brad and his business is to reach as many people worldwide to help them run without pain. Facebook groups have been a good start in this direction, and Brad plans to build on that base by building some new avenues to help people with their running, such as memberships and online courses. And of course there are plans for a revised edition of You Can Run Pain Free! too.
